During this time, he has managed grass-roots prospecting adventures in the Canadian Arctic and high arctic islands, the jungles of West Africa, the foothills of Mexico, the rain forests of the Amazon Basin in Brazil, the fjords and icecap of Greenland and the Australian outback. Ray has raced in (and won) most of the world's most extreme endurance races including the Gobi March, the Libyan Challenge, the Sahara Race, the Marathon des Sables (twice), the Trans 333, the Jungle Marathon, and the Yukon Arctic Ultra. On November 1, 2006 Ray and two other runners launched the epic Running the Sahara Expedition. Mike has been involved in emergency response for most of his adult life. He has spent eight years doing arctic ground search and rescue with the military and has been running Arctic Response since 2002. Prior to relocating to the arctic, Mike spent several years as an international aid worker in many of the worst front line communities of Bosnia and Rwanda. Arctic Response continues with emergency planning and response work with humanitarian agencies working in both Afghanistan and Iraq. (read more…)
