MATRIX Village
Once again our friends at MATRIX have generously donated an entire, authentic exploration camp for racers, international volunteers and media to stay in while in Yellowknife. MATRIX Village will be built near the start line on Yellowknife Bay. Racers will share a Weather haven shelter complete with army-style cots, ply wood floors, electricity and oil heaters - very luxurious (this is what we prospectors camp in for months at a time while out in the frozen barren land). The Village will accommodate up to 100 people, many spots are reserved for media, our SAR Team and our international volunteers. Racers, if you would to reserve a spot in MATRIX Village please email the race director as soon as possible. There may be a small fee of $25 a night to cover the cost of heating oil and generator fuel.

The first 188 kilometers are paved, as well as 60 kilometers from the junction of the Laird Highway to Fort Simpson. The remainder is gravel, with portions treated for dust control.
Highway 2 - Hay River Highway
This highway, the NWT’s shortest, connects the town of Hay River to Highway 1 at the community of Enterprise. The highway runs through Hay River, terminating on the southern shore of Great Slave Lake. Its total length is 48.6 kilometers, all of which are paved.
Highway 3 - Yellowknife Highway
This highway connects to Highway 1 just south of the Mackenzie River ferry crossing and continues north, around Great Slave Lake, to Yellowknife. The road was completed in 2007 making for a great drive. WATCH FOR BUFFALO!
